This activity teaches students the basic of school bus safety in 5 bite size pieces. Topics covered include: walking in front of and behind the bus; handrails, windows, remaining seated, etc. The activity challenges students to assess their safety habits while riding the school bus each day. It also challenges them to create one additional safety rule.
The activity could be used as a mini lesson on school bus safety.
Students complete the Safety Star individually and then share their answers with the class. Each item on the checklist is used as a basis of class discussion. Ask students to share one area that they will work on to improve. An option is to invite a school bus driver to be a guest speaker.
The activity meets English language arts common core and health standards.
