This assessment was created to measure student understanding of the first two standards in the geometry domain. The assessment is modeled with a leveling system that provides a way for teachers, students and parents to see how far a student has progressed in their understanding of the two standards. Scoring works on a 10 point system, which can easily be translated into the general letter/percentage grading system that most electronic gradebooks use. Students performing at a Beginning level, would receive a score within the range of 0-5 points depending on the consistency and accuracy of their answers in the beginning section. Students at an Emerging level will achieve a score of 6-7, students at a Proficient level achieve a score of 8-10 and Advanced students can achieve a score of 11-12 (which on a 10 point scale, will of course reflect a score over 100%). When scoring this type of assessment, teachers have the autonomy to determine their own criteria for deciding on the numerical values for each range, as it is not meant to be a point for point scoring system.
