Students learn about the Ring of Fire and the reason for its existence complete with visuals and video clips. Students then answer check for understanding questions before moving on to the mapping activity.
Students learn about latitude and longitude (the major lines, how to find them on a map, etc.) before starting their own independent work. Students are given tables with coordinates of famous earthquakes and volcanic eruptions and use their coordinates to map them on their blank world map. This allows students to visualize the Ring of Fire.
At the completion of this, students take a 5-question exit ticket on the material.
