This product briefly describes the situation and problems in Rome prior to Julius Caesar. It covers several of the problems the Republic was coping with. It then explains how Caesar rose in power and his actions as dictator. The reading then covers his effect on the Roman Republic. Included are two graphic organizers: one blank and one with fill in the blanks. There is an answer key. Finally, there is a worksheet asking students to pretend they are a Senator and they must decide how to respond to Julius Caesar declaring himself dictator and hearing about the assassination attempt. They must choose between five choices, such as participating in the assassination attempt, remaining silent, etc.
