Students review the Rise of Medieval Europe by organizing 28 events on a timeline and answering 4 questions. Events and people covered include but are not limited to the Battle of Hastings, William the Conqueror, Charlemagne, the Magna Carta, the Concordat of Worms, the Inquisition, Feudalism, Manorialism, parliament, Richard the Lionhearted, a few popes, and more! They will then be classified according to a system detailed in the instructions, complete one task for 8 items of their choice and a different task for 6 other items. There are arrows in the first two lines of the timeline showing students the direction to fill out the pieces in. The answers are included where appropriate and this could work for a sub!
Sample timeline items and questions include:
--Concordat of Worms
--Clovis becomes king
--Parliament divided into 2 houses
--Francis establishes the Franciscans
--Capetian dynasty established in France
--Pope Gregory VII opposes lay investiture
--What do you consider the highest point of this time in Medieval Europe and why? Would historians agree with you, why or why not?
--Compare and contrast feudalism and manorialism. Which would you have rather lived in and why?
