A beautiful blend of earth science and geography is which students study Pennsylvania landforms which leads them into a focus of Pennsylvania rivers and watersheds.
Very COLORFUL and pairs wonderfully with the other river notes/activities on our TPT page. River and watershed content includes: Pennsylvania cities, geographic provinces, Mt. Davis, Delaware River, Susquehanna River, Ohio River, Allegheny River, Juniata River, Monongahela River, Youghiogheny River, Delaware Bay, Delaware River Water Gap, Pine Creek Gorge, Lake Erie, and the Allegheny Plateau.
Also included are the parts of a watershed and the parts of a floodplain such as: levees, floodplain, valley walls, divide, bedrock, alluvium, meanders, oxbow lakes, yazoo streams, point bars, and more. This has been used successfully in a 7th grade earth science classroom with a variety of levels. It has been modified for special education environments as well.
This activity has also been linked to labs in which students make specific features with wet sand incorporating the watershed and floodplain content. Kids really love this because it brings river and watershed features to life in that the pictures are in color and representative of a specific area. Lots of fun! Answer key in order at the end of the file.
Cut and paste or Velcro and laminate for special education applications and alternative assessments.
Within the classroom, this activity has been consistently very successful and acclaimed by students in grades 6th – 9th within multiple types of schools - public, private, and charter.
