Students take an imaginary trip across America traveling to different physical features. They write about their trip on a post card and illustrate it with drawings or computer-generated images. This activity also incorporates use of directions because students need to include them in their description. This activity can be easily modified for different grade and ability levels by decreasing the number of features they need to include or decreasing the length of their descriptions. Students love to include photos from places they have actually visited! I use this activity at the beginning of the school year and love to display for Open House!
