Students examine major events leading to the American Revolution. Using the close reading strategy, students take a closer look at the following eight key acts/events: Proclamation of 1763, Sugar Act, Quartering Act, Stamp Act, Declaratory Act, Townshend Acts, Boston Tea Party, and the Intolerable Acts.

The text is broken down into a guided passage for each act/event leading to war. Students will read the text several times, clarify main ideas with illustrations, and gain a deeper level of understanding regarding the events that contributed to the American Revolution.
