This lesson activity is based on Roald Dahl's brilliant and compelling short story "The Hitch-Hiker (available online and in several collections). It emphasises the reading strategy of predicting. It helps make students more aware that they are active readers who participate in constructing meanings from a text.
The handout includes an introduction to the task, to be read over as a class. The visual organiser scaffolds students to ask predictive questions, with the provision of examples.
The class should enjoy having the story read aloud to them, perhaps with other activities, in a previous lesson.
