This lesson extends a student's basic understanding of the theories about what happened to the Lost Colonists of Roanoke by asking them to evaluate evidence that can support or disprove a particular idea. The evidence is presented in 12 well-researched "Clue Cards." Each clue card has questions for students to consider. The lesson plan and an example of three clue cards is given in the preview. This lesson can support Common Core ELA Anchor Standard 8: 8. Delineate and evaluate the argument and specific claims in a text, including the validity of the reasoning as well as the relevance and sufficiency of the evidence.
UPDATE! This lesson has been recently updated with a 20 slide power point presentation that helps reinforce the concept of primary sources while introducing the story and the task.
