Roaring Twenties Fluency Task Cards
and Crossword Puzzle
A great way to practice fluency and learn about the important people in the 1920’s. This activity goes hand in hand with Social Studies standard SS5H2b.
SS5H2b. Describe the cultural developments and individual contributions in the 1920s of the Jazz Age (Louis Armstrong), the Harlem Renaissance (Langston Hughes), baseball (Babe Ruth), the automobile (Henry Ford), and transatlantic flight (Charles Lindbergh).
You could use this activity in a whole group, small group or partner groups in a center. Students will read aloud each short passage while another student listens and times their reading. After completing all passages there is a crossword puzzle that will check their understanding.
