Students will observe and analyze several political cartoons, included in the day’s PowerPoint, of both the campaign to vote for the Prohibition Amendment and then later for the repeal of the Prohibition Amendment. The students have to look at both why the Prohibition Amendment was passed, or why proponents of the amendment say that it should have passed, and the affects that led to it’s appeal from the clues in the political cartoons and a clip from Ken Burn’s Prohibition. Students will also look at the bootleggers and crime of the time. They will then end the lesson by using a political cartoon to predict the effects of Prohibition.
