Product Description
There are a handful of industrialists who helped build America, and here we are looking at four to determine if they are Robber Barons or Captains of Industry.

To do this students will work in groups to analyze primary and secondary source documents on Cornelius Vanderbilt, John D. Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, and JP Morgan where they will need to determine rather each man was a robber baron or captain, and use evidence from the source to explain why. After students will need to evaluate their findings in a summary sheet.

Sources range from New York Times excerpts, quotes, letters, excerpts from novels, and political cartoons.

To do this I had students work in groups of 2-4 and rotate between stations with two sources at each station.

Included are both PDF and Word versions of this resource.
