Learning about Robert Frost and interpreting his poem, “A Time to Talk,” is so much fun with this Doodle and Do resource! Designed with doodling, interaction, and creativity in mind, you’ll find a Doodle Article about Robert Frost, Doodle Notes to respond to the nonfiction passage, and an interactive poetry flip book in this resource.

First, students read a nonfiction passage about Frost that includes information on his early life, writing, style, accomplishments, and older years. In the article, students will respond to questions and DOODLE directly in the text. This makes the reading incredibly engaging! Then, they’ll complete a Doodle Notes page to show their understanding of the informational text. Next, students will analyze the poem “A Time to Talk.” They’ll participate in repeated readings of the poem as their analysis of the poem becomes more and more complex. They’ll use their understanding of the poet as a basis for aspects of their analysis. Students will record their poem interpretations in an interactive flip book.

Resource Overview:
• This resource is designed to help students learn about Robert Frost, and then analyze one of his poems.

• Students will read a nonfiction passage about Frost. The article is an incredibly unique DOODLE ARTICLE. While reading the doodle article, they’ll answer questions and sketch doodles directly in the passage to show their understanding of the text.

• Then, students will fill in a Doodle Notes page to creatively respond to the text about Frost. Students will practice skills in sequencing, connecting to the text, questioning, evaluating, and synthesizing as they complete the Doodle Notes page.

• After building background information on the poet, students will analyze the poem “A Time to Talk.”

• The poem is accompanied by a five-page interactive flip book. Students will complete repeated readings of the poem to develop deep interpretation and comprehension.

Added Bonus: As part of the Doodle Article about Robert Frost, students will color and cut out a quote card with an inspirational quote from Frost. Students can hang the card in their desk or locker. They can even use it as a bookmark. There’s even a quote poster from Art with Jenny K.!

This resource includes 3 engaging learning activities:
Nonfiction Reading: Students will learn about Robert Frost as they read a nonfiction passage about the writer. The passage is interactive. As students read, they’ll show their understanding of the text by answering questions, making connections, and evaluating the text. Students will showcase their learning through doodles and sketches. This makes the passage extremely engaging and meaningful. In addition, students will create a quote card with a quote from Frost.

Doodle Notes Response: After students read the passage about Robert Frost, they’ll complete a doodle notes response page. Students will fill in the doodle page with information from the passage including Frost’s accomplishments, influences, significant life events, and so on. The visual nature of the doodle notes response makes the poet study super fun.

Poetry Analysis Flip Book: Once students have built background about Robert Frost, they’ll analyze the poem “A Time to Talk.” Students will participate in repeated readings of the poem to deepen their analysis. The poetry analysis is made hands-on and interactive with a flip book.
