This download includes a 5-day unit of study focused on analysis of Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken." This unit encourages students to look beyond the typical reading of the poem to consider more subtle implications of every line of Frost's classic. By drawing upon YouTube videos of the poem's readings and analysis, whole-class and small-group discussion, annotation, and narrative and analytical response, students will examine "The Road Not Taken" in a way that will open their eyes to the ambiguous nature of poetry.
These five lesson plans includes clear instructions for discussion- and writing-based instruction linked to study of the poem, taking into account teacher directions, student instructions, assessment suggestions, and Common Core standards for each writing activity.
Designed for students in grades 8 through 12, this unit has been worded with academic language appropriate for upper levels of students, but easily adjustable for more mainstreamed classes or younger instruction.
