The Common Core demands that students use various models to add and subtract fractions. They must decompose them and find equivalents without using the traditional algorithms and methods.
This game was designed to practice the clock visual model found in the Common Core Fraction units for grades 3-5.
Students will practice combining fractions with the denominators 2,3,4,6, and 12 without having to find a common denominator first.
Students pick a fraction card and place their game piece on the clock. Next turn, they pick another fraction card and move their piece forward. Closest to midnight, or one turn around the clock wins.
Recording sheet is included.
!!!! This game is included free in my Fraction Task Cards (pattern blocks and clock faces) along with 16 other clock face practice problems and clock face lesson sheet. !!!!
I used this one day instead of worksheets. It allowed me to be a facilitator and roam the room having important discussions about the mathematics of the game.
