This is a fun and yummy addition to your rocks and minerals unit. The set, by Sara Ipatenco, includes all the printables you need to run a rock candy lab in your classroom or science lab. (You will need access to a stove.) You get the “My Rock Candy Lab” book in six colors, as well as in black and white. The book includes a cover, a page for students to list the materials they need, a page to list the set-up directions, and a page for writing and drawing about their observations. You can make your book as short or long as you like depending on how many times you want your students to observe their rock candy growing. My first graders observe 4 times. You also get lab instruction cards in six colors, as well as in black and white. Finally, you get rock candy-shaped name tags for labeling each child’s glass jar – also in six colors and black and white! The colors included are pink, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. This is a great way to finish your rock unit, as well as introduce basic science experiment concepts. Have fun!
