Check out my blog to see some pictures of these experiments and activities in action!
Students will be able to explain and work with all three forms of the rock cycle - igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary!
This product has four sections, and includes the following:
Rock Cycle Demonstrations and Models:
-A brief reading introducing igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks
-Modeling the rock cycle with clay
-Draw and explain igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks
-Water erosion experiment
-Build sedimentary models
-Crayon igneous rock models
-Classic baking soda volcanoes to model magma
-Metamorphic rocks vs. sugar cookies
-Metamorphic art model
Erosion Enquiry Experiments and Observations:
-Erosion: Save the Castle!
-Erosion: Wind vs. Sand
Rock Cycle Observation Lab:
-Students will be able to observe, describe, record, and measure the height, width, weight, color, pattern, and texture of rocks (comes with standard and metric measurement sheets for recording)
Rock Cycle Research:
-Comes with full color and black and white pictures of various igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks
-Students will research to classify different types of rocks
-Rock feature research papers
-Igneous rock research
-Sedimentary rock research
-Metamorphic rock research
Warning: It helps to have access to a lot of sand (like a playground) as well as computers or iPads for internet research. There's a bit of purchasing involved to make these experiments happen - maybe about $30-40 worth of materials.
