This Next Generation Science aligned product addresses the Next Generation Science Standard 4-ESS1-Earth’s Place in the Universe: Identify evidence from patterns in rock formations and fossils in rock layers to support an explanation for changes in a landscape over time.
The product includes posters, activities, experiments, and informational sheets that cover material related to the standard. These can be used for whole class, small groupings, or science centers.
Some of the experiments, labs, and or activities include an activity where students "discover" fossils (fossil cards) in layers of rock (books) and log their findings, just as a paleontologist would do. There is also a core sampling activity, a "how sediments settle activity, and a geological disturbances activity.
There are 4 different "Clues and Evidence Abound!" scenario sheets that show pictures of rock formations that have changed over time. Students are to use clues in the pictures to infer what forces of natures might have caused the changes.
