NOTE: This product is available in a Bundle See Below -

This is a great way to get students thinking about the different characteristics of the 3 Rock Types:
Igneous - Sedimentary - Metamorphic

Students read through rock descriptions then look at sample images and pick out unique observational statements. Then choose the type of rock based on their chosen observation statements.

Example Observational Statements:
"This rock has visible crystals or pieces of other rock."
"This rock has wavy bands or squiggly lines. "
"This rock has sea shells or fossils pieces inside."

Teacher directed as a class activity or....a great center/lab activity for students to practice observation skills and identifying rocks.
