This is a group of lessons that will go about a week (plus extra time for students to work on a summative assessment).
-Learning how rock layers form by students creating the layers with play dough
-Acting like a scientist by taking core samples of the layers and studying the layers
-Research the layers of the Grand Canyon, including timelines and fossils in the layers
-Apply knowledge through a Grand Canyon metaphor final project
These lessons satisfy the fourth grade Next Generation Science Standards for "Earth's Place in the Universe" which has the learner outcome of students being able to explain changes in landscape over time from studying fossils and rock layers.
