Description
Rock & Roll Themed STEM: Build a STRONG Stage:
For this STEM challenge, students will be responsible for building a stage strong enough to hold a band and all of their equipment using paper, popsicle sticks, straws, and tape. There is a balloon option to add to the fun as well. You will receive student and teacher directions, a student checklist, and before and after handouts for your students. The goal is for student stages to be able to hold at least 50 pennies. (The student directions page and student checklist are editable.)
Context Clues Task Cards:
Use these Rock and Roll themed task cards during a rock and roll themed classroom transformation, or ANY time. I plan on pairing these task cards with a game in order to make them a bit more exciting. = ) There are 12 task cards that are at a 4-6 grade level. The words included are listed below. Also included is a recording page.
Words included: exert, saunter, teems, deteriorates, negotiates, ritual, preserve, courteous, speculated, portable, merged, collaborating
Math Scavenger Hunts:
*Please note that these scavenger hunts have the SAME math problems, there are just two different options for how you can present them to your students. Task cards include addition and subtraction (to the millions), multi-step addition/subtraction, and multiplication (one digit by 4 and 5 digits).
*Both scavenger hunts are partially editable.
Math Scavenger Hunt Option One: Around the Room
For this scavenger hunt, hang each of the eight task cards around your classroom. Break students into groups and have them start at different task cards. Have students solve the task card. After they solve the task card, students will look for their answer on the other task cards around the room. After answering and finding all eight answers, they will arrive back at the problem they started at.
*Editable portion: Large task cards are blank so you can create your own problems if you would like.
Math Scavenger Hunt Option One: Around the School
For this scavenger hunt, students will solve task cards and go on a scavenger hunt around the school in search of the next task card. If you are looking for a quick and easy scavenger hunt, stick with the around the room hunt. This version requires much more set up and prep time. For this version you students will unscramble locations around the school, go get a task card, and eventually solve a music themed riddle.
*Editable portion: task cards, joke card, scramble words, and answer key
