This is a Scoot Game that uses weight, size, and color comparisons about rocks.
Georgia Standard Addressed: SKE2 – Describe and group rocks according to physical attributes: Heavy/ light Large/ small Smooth/ rough Dark/ light
Prior to beginning the Scoot Activity, have students weigh their own rocks. (I am having my students each bring one rock in for the activity, and they are weighing them in the morning as they come in using the scale and the unifix cubes or some other non-standard unit of measurement). The weight needs to be written down on the scoot sheet that will be at the student’s desk with the rock.
Students will rotate among 8 seats to analyze the rocks and come up with the answers on the scoot sheet. Once all students are finished coming up with the answers, students can work as a group or independently to answer the comparing and contrasting questions.
