If your class is like mine, they are on the carpet a lot so they need to...Rock the Rug! While I have class rules, I've found that "Rug Rules" are crucial as well!
I introduce the carpet rules during the first week of school and review. I hang them up by my carpet area during week 2 and refer to them throughout the year. My favorite is, “We take care of our friends” which really helps set the tone during morning meeting, sharing times, etc. By having these rules visible, you’re setting the tone for the entire year. They have been so helpful to me. If a child is talking to a nearby friend, I simply point to the rule "No side Conversations." By pointing, I'm not further disrupting the class by having to redirect orally.
