This is an all-in-one packet that your students can use for your "rocket science" unit. They can keep track of their design ideas that relate to each of the different scientific concepts taught and explored in the unit (gravity, propulsion, air resistance, guidance, Newton's Laws of Motion, etc.). This packet includes brief descriptions of each concept for review and focus for the students as they write their design proposals to NASA. This made my tracking of their understanding of the scientific concepts much easier and held them accountable to incorporating ideas taught in the unit into their design. I also used it to assess their understanding and assign grades. The students also use this packet to practice clearly communicating how they utilized scientific ideas in their rocket design--using higher depth of knowledge skills like critical thinking and synthesis. Finally, it serves as a rough draft for their final product that accompanies their rocket--a persuasive essay or speech directed at NASA to pitch their rocket design idea.
