This lesson is designed to allow students to learn about mass, velocity, and how mass affects velocity of an object. Students also learn about measurement tools (distance and weight) and the importance of keeping good records of the experiment. A launch device is needed for this lab and can be designed by your students as a STEM activity or you can build a basic launcher using pvc pipe (web site with instructions included) or amazon has an inexpensive launcher for around $11. Students enjoy making their own launchers and this can be completed in class with supervision. The accompanying questions help students find velocity and track how the mass changes the velocity of the rocket. Team work is a part of this activity. Caution your students will be engaged and may not want to leave class.
