This is a small group reader's theater is for 4 students. This ties science into reading and is a great way to do two things at the same time. This script was intended to either introduce or reinforce a lesson on the rock cycle while giving students a chance to practice their Spanish.
In the script - The class is supposed to go on a field trip today. Their teacher told them it was going to be to a rock show. Daniel thought rock show meant rock concert as in guitars and rock stars. He is VERY disappointed to hear it is to look at rocks and minerals. His friends try to cheer him up by explaining how the rock cycle works. It helps a little bit but things get even better when they decide to write a rock song about … rocks! There is no song at the end of the script but there is a writing prompt encouraging students to write, on their own or in groups, a song or rap about the rock cycle.
We use reader's theaters to encourage our students to practice fluency. It is a fun way to do something that they need. Most of our scripts are in black and white so they photo copy easily and do not waste ink. The problem with many other reader's theaters is that students spend a lot of time waiting for their part. When you have a small group they get more practice and you get less off task behaviors.
Our names are Julio Lopez and Melanie Whitesides but our store name is LosDosMaestros and we hope that your students enjoy this script as much as ours did. If you like this script look for more science related scripts at our store. Please let us know how things go!
