Product Description
TYPES OF SEDIMENTARY ROCKS

Sedimentary rocks presented in 2 ways. First, sedimentary rocks are classified by type: clastic, chemical (crystalline), and organic (bio-clastic). The terminology and images may be cut and pasted or Velcro attached to a manila folder. Sedimentary rock formation processes/environments as well as rock symbols are found as separate sheets to enhance the higher level processes.

Terminology and content covered include: clastic, chemical (crystalline), organic (bio-clastic), breccia, conglomerate, sandstone, shale, limestone, bituminous coal, siltstone, dolomite, organic limestone, rock salt, and rock gypsum. Additionally, a sedimentary rock formation diagram as well as a professional rock symbol diagram are provided.

This works well for any level but is GREAT for special education students or college prep learners that need an alternative assessment and may not be great at traditional labs.

The best way to deliver this content is to combine it with real sedimentary rock samples. It’s a HIT!

This has been used as a pre-class, lab/activity, study guide, review, and assessment. This is an effective teaching tool one on one, in small groups, and as a class when using a Smart Board/Promethean Board/Projection.

A great addition to your geologic teaching library.

Cut and paste or Velcro and laminate for special education applications and alternative assessments.

Within the classroom, this activity has been consistently very successful and acclaimed by students in grades 5th – 10th within multiple types of schools - public, private, and charter.

Great feedback from parents, teachers, administrators, and curriculum field professionals.

Applicable to many state science assessments and benchmarks.

Has been applied to state mandated North Carolina end of year tests for science in grades 5 and 8.

Even used by teachers in New York State as a preparation for the Earth Science Grade 9 Regents Exam.
