Product Description
Rocks and Geodes will help your preschool or kindergarten students learn, understand, and practice using the terms used when talking about rocks, minerals, and geodes. It also will provide you with resources to make your unit come to life. By integrating science and non-fiction texts into your daily lessons, you not only create an enthusiasm in your students, but you can create the "hook" you need to engage even the most reluctant learners.

This packet includes many resources including: 3 part cards, (nomenclature), vocabulary pictures (great for ELL students), center activities, art projects, craft ideas, STEM/STEAM activities, anchor charts, recording pages, reading passages, fully written out 5-E lesson plans, math, language, writing, and science activities and more!

Students will learn and use these vocabulary words:
rocks, minerals, sedimentary rocks, metamorphic rocks, igneous rocks, volcano, lava, amethyst, quartz, crystal, agate, geode, layers, cairns, texture, luster, color, hardness, living, nonliving, and more!

Each word has a vocabulary card (with a real life picture). My students love being able to make real life connections from looking at the high quality photographs.

Through a series of lessons, students are presented with the following hands-on lessons:
1. Exploring rocks: properties of rocks
2. Are rocks alive?
3. Types of rocks: sedimentary rocks
4. Types of rocks: metamorphic rocks
5. Types of rocks: igneous rocks
6. What is a geode?
7. How hard is a rock?
8. STEM: How many rocks can you stack?
9. STEAM: Designs in rocks: look closely (art)
10. STEM: rock boats

All lessons are presented in the 5-E format. (engage, explore, explain, elaborate, evaluate) They are written out step by step! Each lesson also comes with beautiful pictures to help your children understand the objectives in a hands-on way. Many of the lessons also contain links to videos and resources to use while teaching the lesson!

There are also math and language activities included in this packet:
