("daily grades") for each of the following topics: differences/similarities between rocks and minerals, rocks (three types included), rock cycle, and minerals.
♦ Journey Through the Rock Cycle Activity
Students visit stations and roll "change" dice to see what path to take in the rock cycle! They record their journey on a chart and the changes they experienced.
♦ "Memoirs of a Rock" Writing Activity
that can be used as a follow up to the Journey Through the Rock Cycle Activity, or as a separate writing activity where students write either memoirs, or a diary about being a rock in the rock cycle. Also included are 3 full color rock border lined writing sheets, one regular border lined writing sheet, and one without a border for you to copy onto your own bordered paper.
♦ Mineral Identification Lab
that includes instructions on different ways to run the lab (can be done as a center), student recording sheets (2 versions - with and without streak test), and a reference sheet for common objects on Mohs hardness scale **Please note, mineral specmins are needed and ideas for cheap ways to do this are included!**
♦ Mineral Logic Puzzles
including individual puzzles (with matrices) and a class/group puzzle with clue cards. Instructions for both types are included!
♦ Rock and/or Mineral Research Project
with templates for information if using as a small mini-project or for a great hall display, research sites with QR codes for students to scan, 30 rock cards and 30 mineral cards for you to draw/assign students, and ideas and teacher notes on ways to use the research.
♦ Rocks and Minerals Study "Fortune Teller"
also known as a "Cootie Catcher," this fun origami aid is great for studying vocabulary!
♦ Rocks and Minerals Unit Study Guide and Unit Assessment
that can be used as a unit test or quiz for a larger unit!
