PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Experience a mineral hardness lab like no other! This lab offers so many pedagogical opportunities based on student ability, teacher discretion, and the availability of lab supplies ranging from none to many. What makes this lab so special is that the student body can be so diverse in ability level and age. In addition, it is formatted so that the teacher has a wide range of discretion as to what information is given to students and what is not. You won't regret adding this to your mineral and geology library. Please see the preview!

Students will investigate the hardness of talc, gypsum, calcite, fluorite, apatite, feldspar, quartz, topaz, corundum, and diamond. They will do so in many different learning formats. There is a performance lab where students can use the information given or actually conduct their own lab and collect data then placing the correct information on the lab sheet provided. There is also a who am I section as well as scenarios that can arranged multiple ways to allow for more or less student direction.

This is a thorough and DYNAMIC activity that covers a ton of information about minerals. This has been used as a pre-class, lab/activity, study guide, review, and assessment. This is an effective teaching tool one on one, in small groups, and as a class when using a Smart Board/Promethean Board/Projection.
