This Interactive Rocks and Minerals Powerpoint was created because my SMARTboard Rocks and Minerals Interactive Unit was so successful and many people kept buying it asking me to turn it into a Powerpoint. Unfortunately, it does not have the same interactivity as having kids move the objects to reveal the answers, but I tried to make the animations exciting.
This unit is designed for a first grade class. However, I have included some vocabulary (Igneous, Sedimentary, Metamorphic) and and information on types of rocks which is a standard in the older grades, not the younger ones. The slide in which students can drag the picture of the rock over the line to see its classification, can be used to build background knowledge in the lower grades.
Vocabulary Covered: Igneous, Sedimentary, Metamorphic, Hardness, Luster, Streak, Geology, Natural Resources)
Please download the PDF file as it is the complete unit so you can see what you are getting before you purchase it.

The unit is designed with the intent of using a science notebook, but is not necessary. 12 slides are interactive, with the remaining slides being guides in experiments, teaching slides, or resource slides. Many links to videos are included in this unit. I use the firefox extension found at www.downloadhelper.net to download the YouTube videos for future use. This resource has taken many hours to create and all lessons and experiments were performed in class. I know you will find it valuable.
