Product Description

Allow your students to become scientists, researchers, and investigators with this 'Rocks and Minerals: Weathering and Erosion Graphic Organizer'!

As your class discusses the ways in which rocks break down, and become soil - and the ways in which weathering and erosion take place, have students record their learning on this graphic organizer.

Use the graphic organizer as an introductory activity, having students write definitions for weathering, erosion and simply list the 3 main types, before conducting in-depth research on the 3 types of weathering.

Alternatively, use graphic organizer as an activity on its own, having students complete it in greater detail, listing the 3 main types of weathering, and descriptive definitions. Then, use the research sheets as an extension activity.

You may choose to have students conduct independent research, or, preselect articles for them to choose from! Students will become engaged in real-world learning, through investigating the processes of weathering around the planet, searching for effective examples to make connections in their learning. Students may research a natural landform that has changed, a bridge or structure that collapsed, a sinkhole, rusting or oxidation, limestone karsts, caves, etc... the world is rich with examples of this interesting, geological process!

Early Finishers?

Have them try the additional "Write All About It!" activity:

"Now that you have explored examples of weathering in detail, find a news story from anywhere in the world where the effects of weathering can be seen. Our planet is rich with examples of this geological process! Below, summarize your findings explaining in detail what form of weathering is occurring, how it is occurring, and the lasting effect it has had."
