Role Modeling the Seasons is a quick and easy way to assess students in a nontraditional way. Get them moving and laughing as they try to use their bodies to represent the Sun and the Earth in this assessment.
A kinesthetic assessment of student's spatial understanding of Earth's seasons and their causes including Earth's tilt, angle of insolation and revolution. Instead of a traditional pencil and paper quiz, students work in pairs with one student representing the Earth and one representing the Sun. They have to use their bodies to represent the position of Earth in each of the seasons and then demonstrate and explain their motions to the instructor. Download includes directions, rubric for grading, review of concepts to help students prepare, and a key for teachers.
