Product Description
Delve into the primary sources of Lewis and Clark’s journals as students discover and debate the actual role Sacagawea played in the Corps of Discovery Expedition.

This lesson begins with a warm up activity in which the students discuss their prior knowledge of Sacagawea. Next the class will complete a background reading of Sacagawea. Pairs will then read through the primary sources of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark locating evidence for different roles Sacagawea might have played on the journey. The class will then participate in a four corners debrief activity in which the students discuss and debate the different roles. Finally, students will create a memorial to Sacagawea showcasing the role(s) she played.

This lesson includes:
A lesson plan tied to the C3 Standards
A power point to guide the lesson
A one page handout on the Background History of Sacagawea
An eleven page packet of the journal entries of Lewis and Clark
A matrix to guide recording the evidence for roles of Sacagawea
A handout to guide the creation of the memorial to Sacagawea
