Before doing this activity, students should be taught about the 2010 law in Arizona that stated police can ask suspected "illegals" for papers without reason.
Also previous to this lesson, students must learn about the many perspectives on this law. Also, they must know that, although many have different opinions, we must still respect them, even if we do not agree.
As a culminating activity here, students are randomly assigned roles with descriptions of their perspective. They then stage a mock debate where they have to create their statements with a partner. At the end, each student votes on the perspective (or role) with the best argument.
