Dice can be used to develop students’ subitizing skills. Subitizing is the ability to see how many instantly. This skill plays a fundamental role in the development of students’ understanding of number.
For this activity, you'll need a gameboard and cubes for each student playing as well as a regular dice for the group of children to share. The student rolls the dice and says how many without counting. They find the corresponding amount on their card and cover it with a cube. The first student to get five in a row wins.
