This activity will help students either recognize and identify the letters of the alphabet OR it can be played focusing on letter sounds. The great thing is, you get to choose.
Students roll the dice and say the name of the letter on that spot. If correct, they keep the card and replace it with a card from the draw pile. If they are incorrect, they leave the card there. The player at the end of the game with the most cards is the winner.
Adaptation: Students play as described above but give the letter sound instead of the letter name.
Included is a sentence frame card for the students to use while playing this game to help keep them focused on the learning objective and responsible for their learning. To use, cut the card down the middle and fold on the dotted line. The card will then stand on the table like a little tent.
Included are game directions, 7 gameboards, 52 letter cards, 24 sentence frames and a note to teacher.
I love activities that can be used multiple ways. In the note to teacher I have shared some other activities you can have your students play using only the letters cards. I hope it proves helpful.
