Roll The Dice! is a topic maintenance game for elementary and middle school students. Students practice conversation skills, topic maintenance, and turn-taking while playing a fun game! There are two decks of topic cards: one for lower elementary (grades 3-5) that includes pictures, and the other for upper elementary and middle school (grades 6-8).
Students place their markers on start. A stack of topic cards are placed face down and one card is turned over to start the game. Students take turns rolling the dice and adding to the conversation. Each roll of the dice requires students to contribute different information (comments, questions, etc) to the conversation topic. After adding to the conversation, students move their marker that many number of spaces on the game board. Once students roll a ‘6’ or land on a new topic space, they may turn over a new topic card. The first player to the finish wins!
Hope this activity is successful for targeting conversation skills with your students! Please leave some feedback! Thanks :)
