ROLL AND READ FLUENCY BUILDERS (READY TO USE PRINTABLES)
Fluent readers are able to read text quickly, accurately and with expression. They are able to connect word recognition and comprehension. Fluent readers group words to gain meaning, and they read aloud effortlessly.
This unit provides readers opportunities to build fluency. Three levels provide differentiation for the readers in K-2 classrooms. Lower level 3rd graders may also benefit from these reads.
In levels one and two, students roll a dot cube, read the sentence next to the cube that matches the dots on the rolled cube, and mark a tally at the bottom of the sheet to show which sentence they read. The teacher can determine how much time to give the student to spend on the activity.
In level three, students roll a dot cube, read one of two sentences in the matching row, and mark the box in front of that sentence to show it has been read. After all the sentences have been read, I have my students re-read the entire page several times, checking their speed each time.
