These Roll and Read pages are a fun way for your students to practice fluency and reading word families. They can be used with partners or in small group instruction/RTI groups. You could also send them home as homework to practice fluency at home. (When printing, make sure to select “Fit” or “Fit to Page.”)
Four levels are provided for each word family and contain real words, nonsense words, and words with blends. Each page is labeled in the bottom right hand corner with the level. Levels increase in difficulty. The different levels allow for differentiation in your classroom.
In addition to reading fluency, these pages also provide math practice for counting tally marks.
Level A: simple CVC words (one per row)
Level B: simple CVC words (both real and nonsense, two words per row)
Level C: words with blends (two words per row)
Level D: words are used in simple sentences
How to Use:
Laminate each Roll and Read page or use with page protectors or SmartPals.
Copy the expression spinner for each partner/group (optional).
Divide your class into partners (or use with small groups). Give each partner/group a Roll and Read page, a dry erase marker/crayon, numbered dice, and an expression spinner with paperclip (if you are using one).
Students take turns rolling the numbered dice. They read the row that corresponds to the number they roll. If using the expression spinner they read the row in that expression (example: in a happy voice).
After reading the row they mark a tally in the column under the number they rolled.
The following word families are included:
-ob, -ock, -og, -op, -ot, -ox, -ub, -uck, -ug, -um, -ump, -unk, -ut
