Use Roll and Write activities as a fun way to engage your students and get even the most reluctant writers to write. When it it becomes a game "it doesn't smell like work." Roll an Idiom can also be used to discuss emotions and self regulation. This set includes two Roll an Idiom boards for a total of 12 characters, 12 idioms and 12 settings. Blank boards are also included. If you have the time make multiple copies and have students cut and paste their own boards together. They can add their own settings and characters to the mix.
Roll an idiom Directions:
Each student takes turns rolling the die to determine the character, idiom and setting they will use to write a sentence. You can also use any self regulation curriculum and discuss what that idiom means and what emotion or state it represents.
Students use one of the templates included to write about their character, idiom setting and feelings. Have them complete as many sentences as time allows. Use cut up sentence cards as a model or reminders on the worksheet provided.
