The 'Roll it, Write it, Subitise it' Mat is used as a part of teaching Whole Number in Mathematics in order to build confidence in number recognition in a various amount of ways.
How to play:
1. The student rolls the die.
2. The student identifies what number is shown on the die (or together on the dice).
3. The student then practises writing the number correctly on the lines as a word, and in the box as a numeral.
4. The student then uses counters (blocks or other manipulative) to subitise the number. (Subitising is a term that was coined by the theorist Piaget and defined the ability to instantaneously recognise the number of objects in a small group without the need to count them.)
