Four writing activities that practice genre, perspective, purpose, tone, point of view, paraphrasing, and analysis while also serving as a reading/comprehension check. Rubrics included.
These are scaffolded: the first lets me know how well students understand paraphrasing and understanding writing with specific textual references. The second activity, Jeremy's Journal, I do in class to check perspective, the understanding of personal writing, and to conference with kids who need help on paraphrasing/textual evidence (based on the first assignment). The third, Cassie's Journal, I do as an at-home assessment and I grade it with the rubric. The last assignment is an assessment after reading Ch. 5 and adds page citations.
