Good communication skills are an important part of getting along well with others and having healthy, positive relationships in all areas of life. The first lesson (of two) focuses on teaching students good communication skills along with the difference between the three communication styles: passive, assertive, aggressive. Students will quickly recognize that the best style — the one that is helpful and respectful to themselves and their relationships — is being assertive. For the second lesson, students will play a fun collaborative game where they will have the opportunity to identify the communication styles and change the passive and aggressive statements into assertive statements.
These scripted lessons and activities can be used in the small group setting, classroom guidance lessons, and individual counseling sessions.
