This is the instructions and rubric for a roller coaster project designed for 8th grade physical science students. There are 2 pages of instructions which include details as to what is expected from the students over the course of 10 days. The rubric lists 10 general criteria and provides spaces for the teacher to indicate how many points they received for each criteria and make comments.
This project is versatile and downloaded as a work doc. so you can make adjustments as necessary. I do this early on in the physics section, so I primarily focus on speed and friction. However, kinetic and potential energy and centripetal force could easily be included in this project.
My students LOVE IT!
I use 2x2foot wood ply-wood sheets for their base and buy foam pipe insulators for the tracks.
I also use these ply-wood sheets for my Rube Goldberg project! Check that one out..it's another winner in my classroom.
