This is a full lesson plan I used when teaching about Ancient Roman society, military, and the Punic Wars. This lesson starts out with a warm up. Then, follows with a group reading section (jigsaw reading activity) where students go in-depth on particular aspects of Roman society. (the reading topics are below):
Men in the Roman Rep.
Women in the Roman Rep.
Slavery in the Roman Rep.
Locations in the Roman City
While reading, students answer questions (handout provided) on their particular topic, and then share their findings with group members. The reading portion of the lesson is followed by a PowerPoint that further discusses Roman Society, the Military, and briefly covers the Punic Wars. The lesson is concluded with students comparing what they learned about Rome to what they had previously learned about Greece.
The lesson plan contains a zip file that is comprised of a complete lesson plan description and a PowerPoint. The lesson plan description contains all readings, question guides, PowerPoint, and even guided notes.
