Nine American writers of these periods are studied: Emily Dickinson; Paul Laurence Dunbar; Ralph Waldo Emerson; Nathaniel Hawthorne; Washington Irving; Henry Wadsworth Longfellow; Edgar Allan Poe; Henry David Thoreau; and Walt Whitman. Rhetorical devices/literary terms are also examined through worksheets that can be used as prescriptive and test prep activities. Each activity can be a homework assignment to enhance daily lessons.
