This unit plan will give you all the basic tools you need for engaging, discussing and assessing Shakespeare's classic play: Romeo & Juliet.
The Unit Plan is divided in to 5 major folders:
1. Background Information
Complete with a "Handy Helper" packet that allows students access to the language and characters, the background information folder also gives students a brief overview of the Elizabethan era. There is also a helpful presentation to show students the main ideas and overarching questions for each act...a great way to review with them as they read!
Individual study guides per Act that assess students not only on basic plot knowledge, but also on major themes, and a variety of literary devices used throughout the play. All study guides come with a teacher key for your use.
3. Act Quizzes
Each act comes with a brief quiz that assesses plot comprehension and language understanding. All quizzes come with a teacher key.
Give your students a chance to practice their Shakespearean language with a Write-Your-Own-Sonnet activity. Also included are language translation sheets, and a fun, lyrics and theme-based activity called "The Music of Love."
6 journal prompts that ask students not only to connect to their own lives, but also to practice narrative writing in Shakespearean language, and to analyze the major themes of the play using evidence. Comes with a journal packet as well as a presentation.
In addition, I have provided you with a suggested planning calendar and 2 Common-Core aligned non-fiction articles to read as a supplement to your teaching.
