Tired of making assignments and kids not putting forth their full effort or not even bothering to hand in the completed assignments? Layered curriculum units are fantastic for battling this issue. The kids need to complete levels within the unit to earn differing grades. If they are happy with 60% then they can attempt only the assignments that will earn them a 60%. This does not mean that they are guaranteed that 60% by completion only. You can make your own rules about how you want your kids to complete the work and earn the grades.
This is my Romeo & Juliet layered unit. It has worked great with my students and I highly recommend it to others, especially if you are new to teaching Shakespeare. I have included the unit outline, the assignments, the rubrics and some other resources that I use to make my life easier. I do not include a break down of how to teach the unit lesson by lesson. However, I typically read the play out loud with the kids and then I go over the information that I find important with them.
If you have any questions about how to use any of the resources, please feel free to contact me.
